  • The rope of good parenting

Rev. John Clapp, Bible Baptist Church|Aug 18, 2017

I trust that you and your family are adjusting well as we all get back to the routines of another school year. New shoes, clothes and school supplies are in for a long year. There is nothing better than opening a new box of crayons or the smell of a new eraser. It is fun to watch the new turn into the routine again. It is a challenge to raise a family today. It is the hardest and scariest thing I have ever done. I know myself. I can take the simple and make it complex. I can take the functioning and create dysfunction. I know this feeling all...

  • Thank you!

    John Clapp, Bible Baptist Church|Jul 7, 2017

I trust that each of you had a great Fourth of July celebration. I wanted to express my appreciation for all who worked so hard to make the festivities at the park successful. Events like Tuesday’s do not just happen. There were many hours of preparation and execution to make it so successful. So to the Rotary, the countless volunteers, the firework organizers, and all the individuals and businesses who donated to this event, THANK YOU for a great day. As I sat waiting for the fireworks, thinking about all those who worked so hard to make t...

  • Crumbling memorials

    John Clapp, Bible Baptist Church|May 26, 2017

John M. Davis was a wealthy man. His wife had just died and he did not like any of her family. He himself was an orphan and he had no children. To prevent his in-laws from getting his wealth when he died, he spent his entire fortune on an elaborate memorial to his wife and him. Several statues were made, one of him and his wife dating, one of his wife, one of him in his later years, and one of him sitting by an empty chair. One statue depicts Davis placing a wreath on the tomb of his wife. Davis finally died in 1974 at the age of 92. All that...

  • Moving out of a comfort zone

Rev. John Clapp, Pastor of Bible Baptist Church|Apr 7, 2017

In many of our churches throughout our community, this Sunday we will be turning our attention back to the Passion Week and the Resurrection of our Lord. I really enjoy this week. I need to be drawn back into the source of my salvation and eternal hope. Nothing is better than seeing a defeated day turning into a Living Hope! The problem we often have as we read and hear the stories of the Bible is that we often fail to realize that the people involved in these stories are no different than us today. They had the same fears and worries. They had...

  • Suffering

John Clapp, Pastor of Bible Baptist Church|Mar 24, 2017

The oldest book of the Bible addresses the singular aspect that all humanity faces: that of suffering. The ancient poem of Job addresses human suffering on a level that few would ever experience. The Book of Job opens with, “There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil” (Job 1:1). We are introduced to a man who loved God, and lived his faith out in his daily life. Beautiful family, successful in life, healthy; but that would change suddenly. By the tim...

  • From ugly to beautiful

John Clapp, Pastor of Bible Baptist Church|Mar 3, 2017

The other morning I came across this verse while I was reading my Bible. Psalm 27:4: “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.” This verse tells of the desire of the song writer to go to the house of the Lord and to see His beauty. The temple of his day was certainly a place of beauty. Solomon had worked hard to make it a place of beauty. There was the beauty of the priests and the worship of...

  • Celebrate Recovery offers hope to those with hurts, habits, hang-ups

    John Clapp, Bible Baptist Church|Jan 20, 2017

The Bible clearly states “all have sinned.” It is my nature to sin, and it is yours too. None of us is unaffected by sin. And because of sin, we’ve all hurt ourselves, we’ve all hurt other people, and others have hurt us. This means each of us, 100 percent of us, needs repentance and recovery in order to live our lives the way God intended. You’ve undoubtedly heard the expression that “time heals all wounds.” Unfortunately, it isn’t true. Wounds that are left untended fester and spread infection throughout your entire body. Time only exten...

  • One common event

John Clapp, Pastor, Bible Baptist Church|Sep 16, 2016

Humanity is truly a diverse lot. We come in different shapes, sizes and colors. We come from different backgrounds, we have various degrees of beliefs and values, each of us have a different set of circumstances that determines everything from our personality to our attitudes about life. We are very unique. There are only a few common things about each of us, but there is one thing that each of us will experience in our lifetime. It is our greatest enemy, our greatest fear, and the one thing in life that causes us the most anxiety and pain:...
