CHICAGO (AP) — Jordan Miller played for George Mason for three seasons before transferring to Miami. So Miller was well aware of Hurricanes coach Jim Larrañaga long before he switched schools. "Being at George Mason, it's hard not to hear about his success there," Miller said Saturday. "Coach L, actually, when I first talked to him, he actually said, 'Do you know about my success at George Mason?'" Sixteen years after he directed the Patriots to a memorable Final Four run, the affable Larrañaga has another double-digit seed on the brink of the...
CHICAGO (AP) — Forget about those halcyon first few days of spring training, when arranging for the right tee time on the right golf course is often more challenging than the work on the field. When major leaguers report next week for spring training 2.0 — or perhaps more accurately, baseball's first summer camp — time will be one precious commodity with about three weeks to go before opening day. "We're going to have some live batting practices the first day they show up. Day 1 and Day 2. ... Multiple ups for the starters," Kansas City manager...
New England Patriots wide receiver Antonio Brown has been accused of rape by a former trainer. The injuries are a pair of significant blows for the NL Central-leading Cubs, who are trying to hold off St. Louis and Milwaukee to win the division for the third time in four years. Kimbrel says his knee started bothering him while he was closing out Saturday's 4-1 victory over the Brewers. The IL stint is retroactive to S...
CHICAGO (AP) — When it was over, when Los Angeles had finally secured another trip to the World Series and Enrique Hernandez's three big swings had become a part of playoff lore, the emotional utilityman just wanted to give his dad a big hug. It was one sweet performance for Hernandez, Clayton Kershaw and the rest of the Dodgers. Hernandez homered three times and drove in a record seven runs, Kershaw breezed through six crisp innings and Los Angeles ended the Chicago Cubs' title defense with an 11-1 rout in Game 5 of the NL Championship S...
