The Alva Ladybugs hosted a labor auction Nov. 7. The team raised about $25,000 after expenses. There were about a 100 people who came to Champs and ate dinner, and supported the basketball girls by bidding on them and raising money for them. Alva High School supported cancer survivors the week of Oct. 2 – 8. The students were encouraged to show support for cancer survivors by wearing different colors that represent different types of cancer. Monday was purple for pancreatic cancer, Tuesday was grey for brain cancer, Wednesday was orange for leukemia, Thursday was black for melanoma, and Friday was pink for breast cancer. Brooklynn Faison is changing the game at Alva High with a new modern technique where she casts a face with plaster. Faison then uses the mold for making masks for One Act, and uses the masks also to improve her costume makeup skills, because she wants to eventually break into costume makeup and design for major motion pictures.
