Larry and Mary Peck, the owners and publishers of the magazine, showed them all about livestock photography. On Monday, Feb. 13, Burlington FFA held a project auction for the community. The past couple weeks prior to the auction the FFA students worked hard to get their projects done. Many students made wonderful projects out of wood, metal and flowers. The students spent a lot of their time in the shop perfecting their projects to auction off, while others cooked, baked or made wreaths/flower arrangements. On Jan. 11, the Alfalfa County 4-H Talent Show and Fashion Show was held at the Burlington School auditorium. Members of the 4-H and Cloverbuds from Burlington, Cherokee, and 4Him 4-H performed talent acts and modeled clothing. On Saturday, Dec. 10, some of the Burlington FFA members went to a leadership conference in Oklahoma City. Members stayed overnight in a hotel and shared rooms with other FFA chapters. At both Made For Excellence (MFE) and Advanced Leadership Development (ALD), members listened to speakers telling compelling stories and teaching students about leadership. On Nov. 5, Burlington basketball hosted a fundraiser to raise money for their teams. All of the basketball members, as well as faculty, played a basketball game with interesting twists and turns. Some people in the crowd even came down and played in the game as well. Throughout the game, parents and members of the community paid for the boys to do things like putting on dresses, using their off hand, and putting one of their shoes on their right hand. On Thursday, Sept. 8, students and community members gathered at the Alfalfa County Fairgrounds for the inaugural Alfalfa County Star Show, a livestock show held for students with special needs. This livestock show was coordinated by Meredith Harden, Manchester resident and Burlington COOP employee. FFA members performed their annual community service during their Service with a Splash event on Aug. 23. Approximately 35 Burlington FFA members and a few guests got together after school to complete different tasks to help around town.
